A piece of advice: During your vacations, you will find in many guides a “puddle” called Cueva del Tancón located in Puerto Santiago near the Barceló Santiago hotel. We cannot recommend it. The truth is that it is very beautiful, with spectacular views of the Los Gigantes cliffs, and it looks like a cave that seems very fun and attracts the attention of many tourists. But in reality, it is a blowhole that makes it very dangerous since it has a siphon effect and swallows everything inside with high tides. The city council banned bathing in this place a long time ago, but there are still people who ignore the notices and bathe there. In recent years quite a few people have died in this cave. Please don’t swim there, it’s dangerous!

Puddles are unique treasures, but to continue enjoying them in the future, we must take care of them and keep them clean. For this reason, we ask that when you visit a puddle, be respectful of the environment and nature.

Pick up your garbage and any other waste you can find. Do not throw objects such as plastic, cans, or glass into the water, as these can damage the ecosystem and aquatic life. We also recommend that you avoid using sun creams and chemical products that can contaminate the water and harm the flora and fauna of the puddle.

If we want to continue enjoying these wonderful spaces, we all must collaborate to keep them in good condition. Let’s take care of the puddles, collect our trash, and enjoy the beauty of nature responsibly.
