Get inspired by our selection of the top places to observe the sunset and admire some beautiful scenes of the landscape when the sun goes down.
Las Americas beach (Playa de Las Américas)
An essential place you must visit during your holidays is in the south of Tenerife. Las Américas is one of the best-known and most touristic places on the island and offers many charming places where you can sit on a bench and make time stand still. Watching the sunset with the sun setting behind La Gomera, the closest island to Tenerife, will make you fall in love. If the visibility is good, you can also see the island El Hierro on the left and La Palma on the right. We recommend you walk along the coast or go to a beach bar or club with chill-out music and enjoy a wonderful sunset.
Chipeque viewpoint (Mirador de Chipeque)
Mirador de Chipeque is one of the best-known viewpoints to see the sunset falling behind El Teide, with spectacular views over the Orotava Valley, Las Cañadas National Park, and the volcano. On cloudy days, a sea of clouds over the coast rises to heights. There are very few places in the world where you can watch the sunset from these heights and with such impressive views. As the highest location in Spain with the viewpoint located at an altitude of 1,830 meters above sea level, it gets quite cold up there, so don’t forget to bring your jacket.
Benijo beach (Playa de Benijo)
This beach is located in the Anaga Rural Park, which is a mandatory stop during your getaway to Tenerife. Along the way, you will find several viewpoints with views that will take your breath away. If you go down to the coast, make sure to eat at one of the fish restaurants in the Taganana or Benijo area. We also recommend you visit one of the beaches with volcanic sand, such as Playa de Benijo, Almáciga, or Playa del Roque de las Bodegas and wait until sunset. The orange colors on the Anaga massif, black beaches with surfers, and several rocks on the beach make this place unique and very different from the rest of the island.
Of course, be careful with the waves and currents that are quite strong throughout the year, making it an idyllic place to practice surfing. It is also a favorite place for many campers to escape daily problems and breathe magic and good vibes.
La Jardina viewpoint (Mirador de la Jardina)
Located between La Laguna and the beginning of the Anaga Rural Park, it offers charming views over this historic city, small towns with colorful houses and mountains with different vegetation, and El Teide in the background. It is easily accessible and close to the main road.
Punta de Teno Lighthouse (Faro de Punta de Teno)
The Teno rural park (El Parque Rural de Teno) is located in the westernmost part of the island, near the municipality of Buenavista del Norte. It is one of the most virgin, natural, and protected sites on the entire island. Access is very limited and can only be accessed by local bus from Buenavista del Norte or Santiago del Teide with line 369 or by car during very limited hours. We recommend that you check the entry information for this protected space on the official website of Turismo Tenerife. Although the entrance is quite limited, it is worth it—the views of the lighthouse, Los Gigantes cliffs, the coast, and nature in its purest state are just incredible. For us, it is the most beautiful lighthouse on the entire island due to the landscape that surrounds it. Do not forget a jacket as it is usually windy in this area.
La Caleta – Adeje
A small charming fishing village with a wide range of local and international cuisine is a must. It is a quiet town with a pleasant atmosphere and the smell of the sea. It offers several entrances to the sea where you can take a dip in its clean waters and, after cooling off, have a drink or eat in one of the restaurants known to lovers of good food. In La Caleta, everyone finds their own.
Puerto Santiago – Los Gigantes
It is impressive to see the sunset from one of the viewpoints in the area, with the red sky over the cliffs, the marina, and the Atlantic Ocean with La Gomera in the background. One of the points to see the perfect frame is the Archipenque viewpoint (el mirador Archipenque) or going up the streets to the right before reaching the center of town. They are cul-de-sacs of some urbanizations, and their views are lovely and almost without people because these points are known only to locals.
Poleos viewpoint (Mirador de los Poleos)
If you are going down from Teide on the road towards Chío, stop at this place where the views of the Masca massifs, the coast, and the neighboring islands appear, and many times you will also find a small sea of clouds over the Atlantic Ocean. Don’t forget to turn to the other side where the highest mountain in the Canary Islands and all of Spain appears. Impressive, right?
Socorro beach (Playa de Socorro)
A fantastic black sand beach located in Los Realejos. It is considered one of the best beaches in northern Tenerife; it is accessible for people with reduced mobility, holds the Blue Flag distinction, and has some beach bars. This fascinating volcanic sand beach is ideal for bathers and surfers because the waves break far from the shore and offer impressive views of the north coast of Tenerife. The sunset here is amazing, a unique landscape where many people take souv
Jardín beach (Playa Jardín)
Playa Jardín is a work designed by the famous artist César Manrique and is located in Puerto de la Cruz near Loro Parque, the best zoo in Europe according to Tripadvisor for several years. It is an urban black sand beach divided into three parts: Playa del Castillo, Playa del Charcón, and Playa de Punta Brava. They are integrated into a charming promenade with various gardens with lots of vegetation, waterfalls, and small caves. A true work of art.
You have to be careful on these beaches because, in some parts, the waves can be strong, which makes them ideal for surfing. Watching the sunset over the beach, Punta Brava, with surfers in the sea and the majestic volcano, is priceless.
